Mapping Future Workforce Competencies

I think we are living through a fundamental transformation in the way we work. So, we need to assess how the workforce of the future looks like for our organisation. The factors or components of the workforce of the future are changing rapidly not only with the speed but also with the scope, significance, etc. and so the requirement of changing skills and competencies - starting from skill assessment for recruiting people or internally promoting, upskilling them and envisioning for a future workforce and leaders by those set of people. And the question that you need to ask as a Leader- who should lead our organisation down the line 10 years or 20 years not only from the pipeline point of view but also what kind of skill sets/competencies we are building for those people to lead the org?

Or possibly we need to reinvent not empirically but with more focus on Tech-savvy, agile and nimble mindset, leading change, resilience, leading with complexity, STEM skills (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and plurality, etc. keeping the generations in mind – as such how we can upskill Baby boomers and Gen X   Vs. what skills we are looking at for Millennials and Gen Z? what are the basic differences in the demographic groups? and then building your leadership program that is aligned with those areas or set of competencies.

Whilst the future is unknown what we can do is to prepare for it and Leaders should have the right instinct and should own the responsibility to drive the organisation in the direction of success by creating high performing team that has the competencies of leading with influence, change, complexity, and plurality et. al. So, the message for the leaders is –

Act now as the change is happening and it’s not far!

The only constant is change- so make that bet and plan for a dynamic than a static future.

Keep the technology i.e., AI, RPA, and how the landscape changing with automation in mind.

In a nutshell, either you lead by the instinct and/or keep focus on the competencies and shape the org future on that framework.
